One of only 17 physicians certified in Mesotherapy in the United States, Dr. Ron Rothenberg is San Diego's first Mesotherapy Specialist and the Director of Medical Education for the American Board of Mesotherapy.

According to Dr. Rothenberg, "Mesotherapy can put the finishing touch on a preventive/anti-aging medicine program. It can dramatically reduce fat in problem areas and it is the only therapy that is effective for cellulite. Mesotherapy is a powerful tool for improved self image and safer than other available therapies." True to form, Dr. Rothenberg understood early on that the field of Mesotherapy, although in its infancy in the United States was going to transform the aesthetic field of medicine and it had even broader applications for improving health and body image.

Dr. Rothenberg has always challenged the medical field's ability to embrace new information and adapt practices accordingly. Upon graduating from Columbia University, College of Physicians and Surgeons, Dr. Rothenberg performed his residency in Emergency Medicine at Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center. At the time, the specialty of Emergency Medicine (like Anti-Aging Medicine and Mesotherapy) was not widely recognized by the medical community. In fact, it was dismissed by most as unnecessary. Dr. Rothenberg, however, was passionate about the field, and went on to become a national leader in the practice and teaching of Emergency Medicine. He received academic appointment to the UCSD School of Medicine Clinical Faculty in 1977 and was promoted to full Clinical Professor of Preventive and Family Medicine in 1989. In addition to his work in the field of Anti-Aging medicine and Mesotherapy, Dr. Rothenberg remains an enthusiastic Attending Physician and Director of Medical Education, Department of Emergency Medicine, at Scripps Memorial Hospital in Encinitas, California and educates physicians in travel medicine, wilderness medicine and anti-aging medicine as well as mesotherapy.

Dr. Rothenberg founded California HealthSpan Institute in Encinitas, California in 1998 with a commitment to transform our understanding of and finding treatment for aging as a disease.
